Florence Box: Fattoria Montereggi

Climbing the hills of Florence, just above Fiesole, we continue along the road where the landscape opens up into a green basin, four hundred meters above sea level. To receive us we find an entire family, custodians of the history of a farmhouse located on Monte Regis, hence Montereggi. The farmhouse had ten farms, each managed by a sharecropper. The community referred to a single owner, in an atmosphere of great cooperation, where many services were guaranteed, including the availability of a blacksmith, a carpenter and an oven where women gathered to prepare bread for everyone.

His son Giorgio, who now runs the company, takes us to the vineyard, which has the peculiarity of rising on a slightly inclined land. Its altitude allows to keep fresh air and gives the right acidity to the wine. Montereggi farm for its history leads us to reflect on the sense of community, as well as respect for the surrounding environment, since from next year the wine will be certified as organic. We raise our glasses to toast to this Chianti of which we savor the incisive character, enjoying the splendid sky of a panorama of green hills and vines laden with bunches of grapes.
