From the pretty Lake Montelleri, surrounded by a park that lends itself well to relaxation and walking, we walk to the center of the town of Vicchio<\/a>, Giotto<\/a>‘s birthplace. We are in the southern side of Mugello<\/strong>, land of the PGI<\/strong> marrone<\/strong>. In fact, we are on the discovery of a marroni cream<\/strong> of great goodness. The marroni cream<\/strong> is a higher quality product of the chestnut.<\/p>\n

We reach the workshop of the La Fenice<\/a> farm and to open the door we find a young couple, natives of the place. In Mugello, the “marrone”<\/strong> has always been considered a product of vital importance to the local economy. While in the past it was considered a poor raw material, today it is considered a valuable product, so much so that it has earned the PGI certificate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This certification identifies the geographical origin of the product<\/strong>, whose own characteristics are to be found precisely in the fact of the typicality of the area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Valentina and Andrea tell us how the ancient recipes, used by the inhabitants to meet their daily needs, were an absolute reference point for making the marroni<\/strong> spreadable cream.<\/strong> A healthy and natural delicacy, made with chestnuts from the Mugello forests.<\/p>\n

We head toward the marroneta, through a narrow road that climbs the mountains, until a fairy-tale landscape opens up before our eyes. It is along these steep terrains that “marroneta”<\/strong> trees follow one another, some of them centuries old while others have been grafted by man. You can already see the fruits that will be ready for harvest in October.<\/p>\n

Once selected and brought to the lab, brown sugar and vanilla beans are added to the mixture. Then, at a table set for the occasion, you spread the marroni cream<\/strong> on a slice of toasted bread and enjoy this exceptional goodness.<\/p>\n
