We climb the hills of Florence, just above Fiesole, continuing along the road where the landscape opens into a green basin, four hundred meters above sea level. We arrive at the farmhouse that sits on Mount Regis, from which Fattoria Montereggi derives its name and has been producing Chianti wine for generations.
In the past, the farmhouse had ten farms, each managed by a sharecropper. The large community referred to a single owner in an atmosphere of mutual cooperation. Numerous services were guaranteed, including those of a blacksmith, a carpenter and an oven where women gathered to bake bread for everyone. In fact, a real little hamlet on the hill above Florence.
His son Giorgio, who now runs the winery, takes us through the vineyard, which has the particularity of rising on sloping ground. Its altitude allows it to enjoy mild temperatures during the summer season, giving the right freshness to the wine, which is certified as Chianti DOCG.
The history of Fattoria Montereggi encourages a sense of community and respect for the surrounding environment. Soon, in fact, the wine will be certified as organic. The grapes are not subjected to chemical treatments, and winemaking in the cellar is carried out using certified organic wine products.
