A few steps from the wonderful Terme Tettuccio spa is the Bargilli family store, which in its architecture echoes the city’s Liberty style. Valentina Bargilli passionately tells us the story of this dessert, which holds a special place in the hearts of all those who love the pleasures of life and conviviality.
It all began with Orlando Bargilli’s purchase of a pastry shop from a Jewish family forced to flee Italy due to the racial laws enacted in the 1930s. The pastry shop was particularly well known in the city for its production of wafers, according to traditional Central European recipes. It was thus decided to maintain that production by Italianizing the name of the wafer product in “cialde“.
In a short time they became one of the most important icons of the spa town. Appreciated by both locals and vacationers, who were the main ambassadors of this delicacy in the world. And which, today as then, are best enjoyed accompanying them with a good ice cream.
Montecatini has always been conceived as a town devoted to providing well-being for people seeking recreation and relaxation. The Bargilli family has been a pillar in this regard, helping to offer a product that, in its simplicity (flour, eggs, milk, almonds and sugar), has been able to trace a significant part of the town’s history.
