Versilia is an endless succession of wide beaches and some of the most historic bathing establishments on the Italian peninsula. It is worldliness, lightness, relaxation, but also culture, art and history.
It starts from the promenade of Viareggio with its beautiful Art Nouveau buildings, passing through Pietrasanta characterised by its beautiful monuments and art galleries, and on to Forte dei Marmi with its luxury boutiques and majestic villas.
It was precisely between Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi that Birrificio del Forte was founded in 2011, producing a high-quality craft beer. The bond with the territory can also be deduced from the name of the company, which has dedicated it to the fort that in the past served as a marble deposit.
We enter the brewery’s laboratory, where the entire craft beer production method is explained to us in detail. The yeasts work at temperatures between 15° and 25°. This is why we speak of a high-fermentation process, by means of which beers with a fruity and complex taste are produced. Neither pasteurisation nor filtration is carried out, in order to avoid the loss of aromas and taste refinement.
The Queen of the Sea, the queen of craft dark beers
One of the most awarded products is certainly ‘La Regina del Mare‘, or “Queen of the Sea”, a dark beer dedicated to this area’s most precious resource. It goes very well with mature cheeses, fruit desserts but also with chocolate.
The bottle label evokes the pleasantness of a fresh beer, to be enjoyed in company and savoured sip by sip. Each glass of this beer is the fruit of the master brewer’s skilful work: the art of dosing ingredients must be found in the taste. That is exactly what happens when you taste the ‘Queen of the Sea’.
