Cantucci Toscani – Tuscany Box

Learn more about the PGI Cantucci Toscani that are part of the Tuscany Box by Radici Italiane.

Halfway between Pistoia and Prato, not far from the hills of Montalbano, we find a bakery that was established in 1966, from which a truly inviting aroma comes forth.

We are welcomed by the Lunardi brothers, Massimiliano and Riccardo, who have taken over the family heritage and put absolute product quality at the heart of their project.

Cantuccini are a classic of the Tuscan confectionery tradition. In all likelihood they are the best known Italian biscuits in the world, having also become famous for the ‘ritual’ of accompanying them with a good glass of vinsanto.

Official documents show that Pisa is the city that conceived them in the Middle Ages. While Prato is the city that made them famous and linked them to its own tradition, so much so that it is often referred to as ‘biscotti di Prato’.

In reality, the latter are distinguished by the cut, which is made diagonally, as well as a difference in ingredients. Prato biscuits, in fact, do not contain yeast and flavourings, just as Prato bakers did in ancient times. Instead, cantucci, thanks to these ingredients, are decidedly softer.

Fratelli Lunardi can proudly boast the PGI mark for ‘cantucci toscani’, which protects the quality and traditional production method by means of precise regulations. The neat packaging and lively graphics invite you to eat them in quantity. A timeless classic, which in the Fratelli Lunardi version is even better!
